Our Sustainability Statement
A founding principle of our brand, we are making it our mission to be as eco-responsible as possible in our production and distribution.
About our wax
We use 100% natural soy wax imported from sustainable sources in Europe. It is certified GM free and has a lower carbon footprint than other brands importing soy wax from the US. The soy plants are grown in an environment that embraces biodiversity by farmers who don’t use pesticides or herbicides, respecting local flora and fauna. It is Natural, Vegan, Kosher, Halal, GMO free and Palm free. Unlike other brands we will never add paraffin to our blends.
From soy beans to soy wax
Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soy beans. After harvesting the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled and then rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This process dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, making it solid at room temperature. The leftover bean husks are commonly used as animal feed.
Why soy?
Soy wax candles have many benefits over paraffin candles. Unlike fossil fuels soy is a renewable source, it’s natural, biodegradable and burns slowly. Soy is clean burning and doesn’t release toxins, carcinogens or pollutants. Soy won’t produce petrol carbon soot like paraffin.
Our packaging
Our packaging is plastic free and sourced from FSC certified suppliers. It is compostable and will break down to natural elements leaving no toxins in the soil. The packing peanut chips are made from starch and are entirely biodegradable. You can run them under the tap and watch them disappear! No animals were harmed in the making of any of our packaging. It is printed using vegetable and water based inks that don’t emit VOC’s and adhered with plant-based glue.
Disposing of our packaging
Please recycle the postage and gift box. Please put the packing peanuts in the general waste bin or dissolve in water. Please re-use your glass container to house odds and ends or pens. Alternatively remove the label, wick and wick sticker and recycle with glass. Please recycle the cards.
